Customers love Local Pickup!
Do you know statistics for the US’ shoppers*? Nearly 67% of them used this option in the past six months.
So, implementing Local Pickup to your WooCommerce store sounds like a great idea!
You don’t have to be a geek. I’ll guide you step by step. It’s easy and you don’t need much time.
First, you need to know this:
You have a few options to configure Local Pickup in WooCommerce.
1. Do you want to make it free? No problem.
2. Maybe you want to charge a fixed price for local pickup? For sure!
3. How about charging your customers for packing based on the order? You can do it, too (there’s a plugin for that).
I’ll guide you through all these scenarios.
Local Pickup – Free or Fixed Price
Standard WooCommerce lets you create the local pickup shipping method with no trouble.
In fact, it is just a flat rate with:
- zero cost by default ($0 for local pickup)
- different name (just Local pickup)
So, you don’t need any plugin for this.
Simply go to WooCommerce → Settings → Shipping.
Click a shipping zone. The one which to you’d like to add a local pickup. (I have UK and United States on my screen).
If you want to add a local pickup to either a few or each of the shipping zones, you have to make it one by one.
Once you click the shipping zone, you’ll see the shipping methods available for the specific shipping zone.
I guess you have a Flat rate there as I do. No matter what shipping methods do you have here (if any):
Click the Add shipping method to add a local pickup.
Select Local pickup and click Add shipping method:
Once you add the Local pickup, click it on the list.
The new window will pop up. You can configure the tax status and the cost of the Local pickup. By default, it’s free.
Configure the Local pickup as you want or leave it with the default configuration.
You don’t have to do anything more. It works now.
Local Pickup – Flexible Price
Default Local Pickup method has its own limits. It’s too simple.
You can set a fee for local pickup method but it’s fixed. You’ll charge every customer the same amount.
However, the orders are different. So are the time and money you and/or your team spend – collecting the order from the warehouse and packing it for the customer.
You need to set different prices based on orders’ contents.
Let me introduce the Flexible Shipping plugin. It will definitely help you.
You need to know this:
First, over 63,717 people use it on a daily basis.
The second thing is that the users love this plugin!
How the Flexible Shipping may help you?
You can charge your customers for Local Pickup based on:
- weight of the order,
- price of the order,
- number of items in the order,
- shipping classes of products in the order.
Flexible Shipping uses a table rate method. That’s why it’s both easy to configure and powerfully. You can create virtually any shipping scenario.
As you see, it’s not that difficult to configure Local Pickup. How do you like the method I’ve just shown you?
